Scotland's Incredible Shrinking Sheep Turning White

Photo by NickStenning via Wikimedia Commons

You might recall a story last year about the Soay Sheep on the island of St Kilda shrinking. Scientists concluded at the time that this was due to climate change.

My theory was that with the changes in the climate, there was more rain over Scotland. And as we all know, wool shrinks when wet...

Fortunately, I'm not a scientist. The real explanation was that, with milder winters, the sheep don't need to be as large to survive. Hence the shrinkage.

Now the sheep experts have also noticed that their coats are getting lighter. They've dismissed the climate change theory for this one but it has left them scratching their heads.

So let me provide you with my theory of why the sheep's brown coats are turning lighter.

With changes in the clmate, this means more rain over Scotland. More rain falling on the sheep means they're going to get a damn good wash more often...

No? Baah.
