Insulation For The Nation

Greener Leith have just opened an exhibition in the Drill Hall in Leith with photos of buildings around the area.

Which doesn't sound very exciting, until you hear that the photos are actually thermal images, and the exhibition is about heat loss. In fact, it's called "Some Like It Too Hot".

As you can see from this flickr slideshow, the older houses and tenements come in for a bit of a pasting. The problem isn't confined to Leith, of course. It seems to be endemic across Scotland with an acceptance that that's just the way things are around here - we're a cold country so we have cold houses.

A universal insulation scheme would solve the problem, of course. Imagine every house and flat in the country being insulated to a standard that would turn all those thermal images blue.

Oh, someone already did...
