Blistering Barnacles!

The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust wants to tag geese which migrate from Scotland to the Arctic every summer.

Actually, technically the Barnacle Geese come here for the winter so do they migrate from the Arctic to Scotland?

Hmm, I digress...

The WWT have concerns about offshore wind farms. I have to admit, when I first heard the bare-bones of this story my immediate reaction was one of despair, that here was another weary-willy who was using wildlife in an attempt to justify an anti-windfarm rant.

Having read more of the story, perhaps the concerns are justified - if the wind farms are on the migratory route, will the birds see them in thick fog or in the dark?

On the other hand, do they see oil rigs, ships or buildings in thick fog or the dark?

And I've said it before, but I tend to think that wildlife is more intelligent and adaptable than we give it credit for.

I suspect the geese will be all right.
