Is this the end of the beginning or the beginning of the end? One of my favourite blogs over the last year (okay, since I found it about 8 months ago!) has been No Impact Man, the daily trials and tribulations of a Manhattan family as they try to produce no net impact on the planet for a year. Today is the final day of their "experiment"
Colin, Michelle, Isabella and Frankie The Dog have reduced their waste to zero and energy consumption to almost zero (with the help of a solar panel). They've shared so many moments with us - laugh out loud ones like Colin trying to persuade Michelle to let him keep worms, head-scratching ones like how to keep milk cold without a fridge; and heart-warming ones like how they entertain Isabella without a TV. Colin has been round the media circuit with good humour - I heard him interviewed on Five Live one night when the presenter got fixated on the subject of the lack of toilet paper.
Actually, I suspect that toilet paper and the washing machine will be returning to their lives almost immediately, but they plan on keeping up with some of the other things they discovered during the year. Colin is promising to keep writing the blog, and there will be a book and film out at some point too. No Impact Man is evolving into Little Impact Man!
